The Jonathan apple is a medium-vigor variety originating from the USA. It is the variety with the highest apple production in Romania. Pollinators: Idared, Pionier, Golden Delicious, Starkrimson.

It is a medium-vigor tree that bears fruit mainly on long branches, is precocious, has a broad-conical, dense crown, and blooms late.

The fruit is above average in size, 140–150 grams, spherical-flattened, and intense red in color. The flesh is yellowish-white, juicy, very crunchy, and sweet, possessing a very intense aroma and an unmistakable taste.

It is a variety sensitive to powdery mildew and requires phytosanitary treatments.

Ripening period: September 15 – October 15. The fruits are resistant to transport, handling, and storage. They can be stored for about 6–8 months after harvest.
